Obatala

Obatala is the King of the Orishas, ruler of the Oyo Empire, son of Olorun and one time protector of the spirit of Olorun. Obatala is the Orisha Sky Father and father of the members of the royal court of the Oyo Empire. During the ancient times, he was worshiped as the god of wisdom by the inhabitants of Earth. Once the greatest warrior of the Oyo Empire, one of many titles passed on to his son, Chango. He is the first and the most powerful of the Orishas and, as such, is recognized as their founder. Although generally peaceful, those who offend him tend to be paralyzed or blinded. In depictions he is generally an older man in white clothes with a white beard and having a regal and wise bearing.
